Noch einmal werden Kräfte gesammelt;
Futter gibt es für die lange Reise, dank subtropischer Luft, als Moskitos in Italiens Gärten für die Schwalben genug.
Once again forces are gathered;
thanks to the subtropical air in Italian gardens there is enough food for the swallows in the form of mosquitoes.
Gegen Ende des Sommers begeben sich im Norden und Süden alle Nomaden der Lüfte wieder auf die Reise: zu geeigneten Futter- oder Brutplätzen an anderen Enden der Welt.
At the end of summer in north and south the migrants of the air start their long journeys again,
flying to convenient places to feed and breed at other ends of the world.

In den Himmeln gibt es keine nationalen Grenzen oder Zäune;
für die geflügelten Migranten nicht.
In the heavens there are no national borders or fences;
not for the winged migrants.

Im Innern tief mit ihnen verbunden beginnt für uns die Zeit des Wartens auf sie,
doch auch ein stilles Glück ihres Versprechens der Wiederkehr.
Es kann Hoffnung geben, daß auch wir,
wie die Federdinge in den Himmeln,
in Frieden den nötigen Lebensplatz für UNS ALLE ZUSAMMEN hier auf Erden finden können.

Deep inside connected to them, now starts the time of waiting for them,
and also again the quiet bliss of their promise to return.

And with this, remains the hope,
that also us, like the things with feathers in the heavens,
find enough living space in peace for ALL OF US TOGETHER on earth.

Eigentlich sollte das neue Jahr mit der schönsten Zeit des Jahres beginnen: dem Frühling, wenn das Leben neu erwacht.

A new year should start with the most beautiful time of the year: Springtime, when life is awakening anew.

Mit diesem ersten lichten Grün begann dieses Jahr der Frühling in Ostfriesland und zeigte sich in dem strahlenden Blütenweiß der Obstbäume etwas später in der Toskana, bis er sich hier jetzt in einer atemberaubenden Blütenexplosion äußert. Kastanienbäume blühen, die Linden grünen; die ersten Bruten machen sich zum Flug bereit und abends beblinken die ersten Glühwürmchen den Garten. Die Schönheit mag nicht enden!

With this first clear green started Spring this year in East Frisia and it shows itself in this brilliant white of the floriferous fruit trees a little later in Tuscany, until it expresses itself here in a breathtaking burst of blossoms.
Chestnut trees are blooming, Linden are greening; the first birds’ brood get ready to fly and in the evening the first fireflies make the garden shimmer. The beauty is unending!

Und jedes Jahr fragt man sich wieder, wodurch wird der Zeitpunkt bestimmt, daß Leben heraus aus der Ruhe oder dem Schlaf wieder sein will; wer gibt dem Baum in Winterruhe den Befehl, Wasser aus dem Erdreich zu seinen Ästen zu transportieren, um dort zu sprießen und zu grünen?

And each year one asks again, what is the moment that determines all this life to come out of rest, or sleep, to decide again to be? Who gives the order to a dormant tree to transport water out of the soil to the branches and to start to sprout and be green?

Wie kann in einem kleinen unbelebten Samenkorn all das Wissen geborgen sein, wie sich Zellen zu einem Gebilde organisieren, mit Strukturen innerlich und äußerlich; zu all den unterschiedlichen Farben und Beschaffenheiten, fest oder weich, undurchsichtig oder transparent, glänzend glatt oder faserig fuselig und zudem zu allen möglichen Funktionen spezialisiert und … lebendig?!

How is all this wisdom contained in a little inanimate grain? How shall cells organize themselves into an entity with all its inner and external structures; into all these different colors and states, solid or soft, opaque or transparent, shiny even or fibrous fuzzy, and moreover specialized to all possible functions and … alive?!

Was ist Leben und warum drängt sich alles Leben so leidenschaftlich zu Sein?
All das soll einer Urzelle entsprungen sein, LUCA, von der man nicht genau weiß, ob sie sich spontan auf der Erde entwickelt hat, oder durch Meteore auf die Erde gelangt ist, oder beides. Und sich dann bis heute zu all den unglaublichen Lebensformen auf diesem Planeten entwickelt hat.

What is life, and why is all living so passionately willing to be?
All being might have arisen from a primordial cell, LUCA, and we don’t know exactly, if it developed spontaneously on earth, or traveled via meteor showers to earth, … or both. And then this cell has developed until now into all these unbelievable life forms on our planet.

Ob man solche Wunder je begreifen kann?
Und uns inmitten?

Who knows if we will ever comprehend a bit of these mysteries?

Niels Bohr, Nobelpreis-gekrönter dänischer Atomphysiker hatte diesen Satz geprägt und glaubte als Naturwissenschaftler an Wunder.
Und voller Wunder ist diese Welt und was sie zusammenhält,
und immer wieder möchten wir deren Rätsel ergründen.

Niels Bohr, Nobel-prize-winning Danish atomic physicist uttered this sentence and believed as a natural scientist in miracles.
And full of wonder is this world and what keeps it together,
and always again we want to figure out its mysteries.

Die Frage nach der Quadratur des Kreises scheint schon seit der Antike unlösbar zu sein.
Und die Quadratur der Schlange? Ebenfalls schwierig.
Ein Gutes an der Arbeit mit dem Stein ist, daß sie viel Zeit in Anspruch nimmt.
Gewonnene Zeit, über solche Themen nachzudenken.
Bei dieser Arbeit wurde danach auch wieder und wieder die Patina auf dem Marmor entfernt
und neu aufgetragen und entfernt,
wie bei den vielen Häutungen einer Schlange. Bis es stimmte.

The question of the squaring of the circle seems to be unresolvable since ancient times.
And the squaring of the snake? Difficult as well.
One good thing, about working with stone, is that it takes up a lot of time.
Time gained, to think about these themes.
In this special sculpture the patina on the marble was removed
and laid on anew, … and removed,
like the many shedding-of-the-skins of a snake. Until it became inherently consistent.

Nach der gelungenen Quadratur dieser Schlange erscheint vieles andere Unvorstellbare auch möglich zu sein!

So schön kann ein Morgen beginnen

So beautifully can a morning start

Es ist, als wollte die Natur uns im Herbst Freude an der Vergänglichkeit schenken. Ab September färben sich die Blätter der Laubbäume von sattem Grün ins Senfgelbe, Honiggold, Orangerot und Scharlachrot bis hin ins Fliederviolette und zu all den Brauntönen. Ein orgiastisches Farbenspiel, bis sie dann zu Boden schweben, oder von den Herbststürmen hinweggefegt werden.

It is as if Nature, in autumn, wants to make mortality and decay appear joyfilled to us. Since September the leaves of the foliage trees have been changing color from rich green into mustard yellow, honey gold, orange red and deep scarlet red, until they turn to lilac purple and all different browns. An orgiastic play of colors, until they waft to the soil, or are swept away by the fall storms.

Schönheit pur, als Kaprice der Natur?
Biologisch findet auch das seinen Grund …
Chlorophyll wandert zu seinen Wurzeln, das Grün gründet da für neues Leben im Frühjahr die Kraft für neue Knospen. Es verbleiben in den Blättern warme Farben, die die vor Sonne und Schädlingen schützen, und die so lange wie möglich im vergehenden Jahr, Energie für neu beginnendes Leben sammeln können. Schönheit für Leben pur!

Sheer beauty, as fancy of nature?
In biology this also finds its reason …
Chlorophyll walks to its roots, the green is founding there a new life for springtime, the power for new buds. In the leaves remain warm colors, which protect from sunshine and vermins, and which can gather energy during the waning year as long as possible for new beginning life. Sheer beauty for new being!

Sirenes Welt _ In a Medusa’s Garden in the Shade __ The Secret Lives of Seahorses

Medusen heißen diese wunderschönen Wasserwesen, von denen ungefähr 3000 verschiedene Arten in den Meeren schweben. Fossilienfunde belegen, daß diese Lebensform schon vor 550Millionen Jahren die Gewässer bevölkerte und sich offensichtlich durchaus als Sein bewährt hat. Diese Nesseltierchen bestehen durch den sogenannten Generationenwechsel, das heißt, daß sie entweder als Meduse oder als Polyp ihr Leben führen, wechselweise.

Medusa or jellyfish is the name of these gorgeous marine beings, of whom about 3000 different species are floating in the seas. Fossil finds prove, that this lifeform was populating the waters already 550 million years ago and so obviously adapted as beings. These species exist by a so called “change of generations,” which is, that they either live as a medusa or as a polyp, alternately.

Sind diese Seepferdchen Ausdrucksformen reiner Lebensfreude der Natur an Gestaltung, wie es erscheint, oder strikte Strategien des Überlebens? Und wie lange mag das gedauert haben, von der Urzelle bis zu dieser Kaprize?
Wie unvorstellbar dies alles!

Are these seahorses expressions of nature’s pure “Lebensfreude” – joy of life – in creating, which is how it seems, or are they strict survival strategies? And how much time might it have taken, from the primordial cell until this caprice?
How unimaginable this all is!

Und Platz sollte für alle da sein
in diesem wunderschönen Land:
auf der Erde, in der Luft, im Wasser, in den Herzen …
Hoffnung, sich zu sehen, zu verstehen …
und zu fliegen mit dieser Hoffnung …

There should be space for everybody in this beautiful country,
on the earth, in the air, in the water, in the hearts …
To hope that we can be aware of one another to understand …
and to fly with this hope …

At the California coast one can see many of the bird species known in Europe (as the Great Cormorants) …

Am Himmel von Ojai kreisen dann neben dem seltenen Weißkopfseeadler riesige kalifornische Kondore und Truthahngeier.

In the sky of Ojai California, circle giant California Condors and Turkey Vultures next to the rare American Bald Eagles.

Und mit den vielen Migrantenvögeln gibt der staunende Zaungast der atemberaubenden Natur von Kalifornien das Versprechen der Wiederkehr.

Kann das alles Zufall sein?
Bausteine des Lebens aus dem All formieren sich zu all den Wundern unserer Erde. Ist es das Göttliche in uns und allem?

Could this all be coincidence?
Bricks of life coming out of the All, form themselves into all the wonders of our earth. Is this the divine in us and everything?
