Noch überwiegt in der Versilia für diese Jahreszeit ein ungewöhnliches Grau, in dem die gelben Mimosenbäume umso strahlender zur Geltung kommen.
Gelbe Mimosen reicht man den Frauen in Italien zum 8. März, der dort eine Mischung zwischen Valentinstag und Muttertag geworden ist. Zumindest ist es der Tag der Frauen in Italien, mit Blumen beschenkt zu werden, alleine auszugehen und untereinander ausgelassen zu feiern.
Grey is still the dominant color right now in the Versilia , untypical for this time of the year, it heightens the color of the Mimosa trees to an even brighter yellow. Yellow Mimosas are given to women in Italy on the 8th of march, which here has turned  into a mixture of  Valentine’s and Mother’s Day. It is, however, the day, when women are given flowers, go out with female friends and party in high spirits on their own.

Der Ursprung des internationalen Frauentages vor über hundert Jahren war der Kampf der Frauen in Amerika und Europa für gleiche Rechte der Geschlechter, insbesondere für das Recht der Frauen zu wählen.

The origin of International Women’s Day more than a hundred years ago was the fight of women in the United States and Europe for equal rights for both genders, especially for womens right to vote.

Eine interessante Sendung dazu war im ZDF Info “Jahrhundert der Frauen” als vierteilige Doku-Serie zu sehen.
An interesting documentary, regarding this topic, entitled “Century of Women” can be found on the german TV-channel  ZDF Info. Does something like this exist in US too?

Die Forderung nach Gleichstellung dauert nach all der Zeit bis heute noch an.  Auch wenn in den Verfassungen demokratischer Länder die Gleichberechtigung der Geschlechter gesetzlich verankert ist, werden Männer und Frauen dort immer noch für gleiche Arbeit deutlich unterschiedlich bezahlt.

The demand for equal standing continues after all this time to this very day. Even if equal rights and opportunities for both genders are guaranteed by law in the constitution of democratic countries, there still remains a remarkable difference in pay for the same job for men and women.

Doch Hoffnung besteht, immer mehr junge, gebildete Frauen verstehen sich heute ganz selbstverständlich schon anders in der Welt und werden ihren Weg gehen. Glaubt man Hans Ulrich Jörges Kommentar vom 31.1.2013 im Stern, hat das                    Jahrhundert der Frauen begonnen.

But there is hope: more and more well educated young women see themselves in their role in the world with natural ease and follow their own path. 
Doch Solidarität ist gefragt:
Seit 1980 existiert in der UN ein Übereinkommen zur Beseitigung jeder Form von Diskriminierung der Frau, basierend auf der Erklärung der Menschenrechte von 1948.
“A promise is a promise” ist das dazu geltende Motto zum Internationalen Frauentag 2013.

But there still is the need for solidarity:
Since 1980 exists in the UN an “Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women”, based on the declaration of human rights from 1948.
