Mare e Monti… in Versilia, Tuscany… a Game of the Sea Stranded in Marble as “Beautiful Strangeness”… “Schöne Fremde”

Das bleibend Spannende, Attraktive ist das Andere, Fremde, liest man bei einigen modernen Philosophen.

Eine Kunst ist es, auch in der Nähe das Fremde und Verschiedene anders sein zu lassen, es nicht in sein Sein als gleich oder ähnlich zu assimilieren, und auch nicht sein eigenes Sein symbiotisch in das andere Fremde einzufügen.

Zu dem Thema sind eine Serie von Kunstwerken entstanden, in denen sich ein Spiel vom Meer, leicht, weich und rund, und ein Spiel der Natur mit hartem Marmor aus den Bergen zusammenfinden.

“und fänden ihr glück darin

eins im andern

und anders im eins

dem fremden ganz nah

ganz fremd in der nähe

und eigen im eins

ein spiel vom Meer

gestrandet im stein

und finden ihr glück darin.

Aus den Fasern der Wurzeln vom Seegras (Zostera marina) formen die Wellen am Meeressaum Bällchen oder weben sich mit anderen Materialien zu neuem Sein zusammen.

Weiter im Landesinneren formt und patiniert das Flußwasser die Marmorsteine der Apuanische Alpen.

Fascination and attraction are a function of our relationship to “the otherness” and that which is the strange, the different. This view is also expressed by some modern philosophers.

Art and the art of life mean to let this “otherness” co-exist in a closeness; the strange and different – the “otherness,” should not be assimilated and reduced to equals within our world… our being. One should not presume to make the “other” fit into one’s world, nor, conversely, should one try to fit symbiotically into the “otherness.”

This idea inspired a series of artworks, where a playfulness from the sea, the light, soft and round, encountered a game of time and nature – with hard cold marble.

The fibers of the roots of seaweed (Zostera marina) are shaped into forms by the waves at the water’s edge… into balls and are woven with discarded fabric or other material into new beings.

While the current of the river water forms and patinises the marble stones of the Apuan Alps.
